Fred VanVleet back for Game 6 after right shoulder injury

Raptors guard Fred VanVleet is available to return to action Friday for Game 6 of Toronto’s series against the Wizards.

VanVleet, who has been nursing a right shoulder injury, has logged only three minutes in the Eastern Conference first-round series, a short stint in Game 2. His status has been listed as day-to-day since, though he has been practicing with the team.

“I’m sure we’ll get him in and see how he goes,” Toronto coach Dwane Casey said in his pregame news conference. “The young man has been out for how many games and how many days now? I don’t know what to expect, but we’ll get him in.”

The rainout came at an opportune time for the Orioles, who are hampered by injuries and have lost nine of 10 games to fall 11 games under .500 (6-17).

Baltimore’s projected starting lineup did not include infielder Tim Beckham, who’s been bothered by a groin injury and is expected to land on the 10-day disabled list.

With Beckham out and Trey Mancini playing with a tender right knee, manager Buck Showalter would have been operating with a short bench.

Help is on the way: Baltimore claimed utility infielder Jace Peterson on waivers from the New York Yankees. He’s expected to arrive Wednesday.

The two schools first played in 1893 and met regularly through the 2000 season. They picked it up after a layoff in 2016, and each team has won on its home field since the series picked up.

Penn State will visit Heinz Field on Sept. 8 and the Panthers will play at Beaver Stadium in September 2019, the last game in the four-game contract the two sides agreed on in 2011.

Lyke would like to keep it going, but said Pitt also can’t afford to wait too long while it tries to make long-range scheduling plans.

Speaking of bulletin-board material, Westbrook tried to hold up his guarantee right from tipoff, picking Rubio up full court and digging deep into a defensive stance — even clapping his hands — on the first possession. Westbrook’s hyper-aggressiveness backfired on him, though, as he picked up four fouls in the first half — all on Rubio — as he attempted to crank up the intensity.

“It’s not about me and him,” Westbrook said when asked about his approach to guarding Rubio. “Let’s get past that. We’re done with that.”

With Westbrook forced to the sideline with a minute left in the second quarter, the Jazz finished the half strong and opened up 12-2 in the third as Westbrook was clearly neutralized with the foul issues.steelers_053

Moran’s hit tool has never been in question.

If the team is looking for a successor to Quin, DeShon Elliott (5.10 RAS) scored slightly better than Thomas (5.07), another former Texas standout, but won’t cost near the draft capital. Jessie Bates (7.08) of Wake Forest and West Virginia’s Kyzir White (7.47) are a pair of Day 2 safeties who the Lions could look at. Both have better overall athleticism than future Hall of Famer Ed Reed (6.54) and Falcons breakout star Keanu Neal (6.05) did when they were drafted.

New coach Matt Patricia was known to utilize multiple safeties in his scheme as New England’s defensive coordinator, so it’s possible he brings those sorts of packages to Detroit. Maybe he’ll even find another Patrick Chung (7.35 RAS), a key cog to the Patriots’ defensive success.

“Man shut the he** up. You have no clue what you are talking about,” Bryant responded to an Instagram user recently. “I have offers from Super Bowl contenders. All of this grinding is for me…it’s time to focus on myself everything else is blocked out right now.”

Holding the score down to, say, a 50- or 60-point win should not be difficult for any coach, let alone one of Auriemma’s acumen. And if he doesn’t know how it’s done, I’ll be happy to show him.

But paid over $2 million a year by the publicly funded state university, he’s entitled to produce and direct slaughters; he’s another who demands respect in exchange for none.

Two weeks prior in Massachusetts, not far from UConn, a girls’ high school tournament game was won, 93-7, by East Bridgewater, its coach — ostensibly a responsible adult — flooring the gas though up, 48-4, at the half.

The question has been defense and whether his power will develop. The Bucs are giving him a chance, albeit mostly against righties. Marquez is off to a rocky start (pun intended), allowing 22 men on base in just 12.2 innings.seahawks_195

The negotiation process is in the beginning stages as Buck and Aikman will be adding games on top of their Sunday duties.

jets_054Fox is hoping to put its No. 1 team of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman in its “Thursday Night Football” booth in the wake of Peyton Manning turning down the opportunity, sources told The Post.

Sources said that the tandem wants to work together, and they have no desire to split up.

If Manning had signed, not only would there have been extra games, but sources said Buck and Manning would have had to do several practice runs, which would have made Buck’s schedule even more difficult. With Aikman, Buck will not have to do any extra practice as the duo has been working together for 17 years, which includes five Super Bowls.

Besides Manning and now Aikman, Fox has brought in the retired Joe Thomas and Carson Palmer for tryouts, as well as the Cowboys’ Jason Witten. Kurt Warner and current Panther Greg Olsen have been considered. The tryouts were not necessarily for Thursday nights, and all could be considered for other positions.

The tweets, which came from an account claiming to be a player once associated with Harbaugh’s Michigan team, have since been deleted.

A spokesman for the football team confirmed Tuesday evening that the player in question left the program last November.

Officers from the university police department were in and around the football training facility on campus Tuesday, according to sources within the program. The Ann Arbor Police Department has also been notified about the potential threat.

Melissa Overton, the university police deputy chief and spokesperson, said she couldn’t go into details about her department’s involvement because it is an ongoing investigation, but added that if there was a concern for public safety they would have sent out a crime alert to let those near campus know. She said that has not happened as of Tuesday afternoon.

Cardinals find new coaches for cornerbacks, running backs

The Arizona Cardinals are dipping into the collegiate ranks for their new cornerbacks coach.

Harbison, 59, has been the co-defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach for the Ragin’ Cajuns since 2015.

Harbison brings 26 years of college coaching experience at both offensive and defensive positions to the Cardinals. He played one season for the Bills in 1982.

Ajayi and Clement offset the loss of Sproles. Mychal Kendricks, Najee Goode and Dannell Ellerbe all helped in the effort to replace Hicks. Rookie kicker Jake Elliott had a good season and made a pressure-packed, 46-yard field goal late in the Super Bowl to put the Eagles up by eight points.

And last but far from least was Foles stepping in for Wentz. It’s another reminder for teams like the Texans, who lost Deshaun Watson to injury and didn’t have a quality No. 2 quarterback.

The Vikings ranked No. 1 in overall defense and scoring defense last season, allowing 275.9 yards per game and 15.8 points per contest. The Vikings, however, also allowed 456 total yards in a 38-7 blowout loss to the Eagles in the NFC Championship.

Edwards, 50, interviewed for the Bears’ open head-coaching job in January before Chicago tabbed former Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy to replace John Fox. Edwards, who has coached 20 years in the NFL, has been Minnesota’s defensive coordinator since 2014.

So the sweeter deal he extracted from the Patriots to remain their offensive coordinator had better include some “head coach-in-waiting” language, as some have theorized, because any other NFL team that would offer him that position at this point would have to be extremely naive.

Honestly, what would be more childish than dragging an organization through more than a month of interviews and negotiation and an agreement, all the way to within 20 hours of your public celebration, and then deciding, um, never mind?bills_030

They should not go back to Eli Manning this month.

The Giants made the decision as a franchise last week to look at Geno Smith (which should be a very brief look) and rookie Davis Webb. They’re 2-10. Four games left in a lost season. Starting Manning this week against Dallas would be lovely for the fans, but would it do anything to answer questions about the futureNo. Play Webb for the last lost month. Get something out of it. This isn’t kicking Manning out the door. No one can know if he’s through in the Meadowlands until the new GM and coach come on board. But sentiment wins nothing in football. The only thing these Giants should be doing is playing for opening day 2018. You know everything about Manning, the NFL’s 22nd-rated quarterback in each of the last two years. You know nothing about Webb.

Don’t get seduced by Mr. Perfect. The Giants have done that before. I am all in favor of going hard after Stanford coach David Shaw, but the Rams couldn’t get him interested last year, and he told me last year that if you’re going to go after him, you’re going to have to convince his wife that your city is better than Palo Alto. (Not likely, was his point.) And here’s the Nick Saban truth. Before the Giants hired McAdoo in 2016, an intermediary from the Saban camp reached out to a top Giants official. Said Saban might be interested. There was contact between the two sides, and after a couple of days, the word came back: “His wife says she’s not moving from Alabama.” Saban may come back to the NFL one day, and the Giants would be an interesting place for him, and if they could get him, by all means they should. But I get the sense the Giants at the highest level have been through the Saban dance before and won’t be going through it again.
